Editing, Proofreading, and Manuscript Critique
Whether you have a completed manuscript, a first draft, or just a few chapters, I can provide
quality editing and feedback to ensure that your novel, memoir, or nonfiction text is written to
the highest quality, in a format suitable for self-publishing or submission to a publisher or literary agent.
I offer literary editing/evaluation for unpublished novels, short stories, and creative non- fiction. I have a
good eye for what works, what doesn’t, and how to fix it. As a writer, I’ve gone the traditional route (NeWest
Press, Whitecap Books, Robert Davies Publishing), and self-publishing (Amazon’s CreateSpace, Mediscript
Communications). I know the value of an independent, objective perspective and can provide helpful
feedback on plot, structure, characterization, dialogue and narrative strength.
If you’re a new writer, I can help you find your voice. Whatever your situation, I can help you tell your story
more powerfully.
My fees are based on the length of the manuscript, starting at $50 for a critique of up to 4 pages, a short
story, or a short first chapter. Please keep in mind this does not include proof-reading for punctuation,
spelling, capitalization, consistency of tense and so on. If agreed, I can include proofing for an extra $50.
3000 to 5,000 words (10-20 pages, double-spaced): $200
5,000 – 10,000 (20-40 pages, double-spaced): $250
10,000-40,000 (40-160 pages, double spaced): $300
40,000-60,000 words (160-230 pages, double-spaced): $500
For manuscripts longer than 230 pages, please contact me at margietlr4@gmail.com to receive a quote.
